Recently unemployed residents of the Johnson City area are turning to plasma clinics for financial aid.
Due to problems with loans, many students did not get their money on time this year. Many of those students relied on loan money to pay their living expenses.
College students looking for extra or seasonal jobs are going to have some stiff competition this holiday season.
Mimi Almeida, a graduate student at ETSU, has been riding her scooter to campus since the end of September when gas prices were skyrocketing.

Consumers are cutting back to deal with the weak economy, but this is directly affecting students working as restaurant servers in Johnson City.
Melanie Barker has given up on the idea of re-entering the job market even though she will soon have earned two degrees.
“I feel the economy is not much better off right now,” said Barker. “And, it won’t be any better this May than it was last May.”
