As I understand it now, news is important information relevant to the public. News is used by the public in an effort to gain information. News can be given to the public in many different formats including magazines, newspapers, on television, online, in person, etc.
Being from a small town, news to me is anything interesting about someone else. Our newspaper is filled not only with world and national news but also with news of the people around us and the events of their lives. Today’s society is overwhelmed with what some deem to be “newsworthy” items and people’s lives are subjected to intense scrutiny in the search of “the news.” In my opinion, people are naturally drawn to the lives of other people and the news somewhat satisfies that hunger. Our society is so enthralled with the news and what is happening around them that even television newscasters become like members of the family.
News is very important in our society in times of disaster or danger, and it acts as a warning system to the public. It offers information to a widespread country in a way that they understand.
I personally am somewhat obsessed with the news. I read the local newspaper daily, as well as national and world news delivered to my e-mail online. I also watch the news as I get ready in the morning, and my husband and I eat dinner together watching the 6 o'clock news. The news is important for me to know what is going on around me!
