ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rising up from Jamaica in the 50's, Reggae entered didn't enter the musical world until the 1960's and stayed because of its’ attractive Caribbean mento and heavy back-beat rhythm.

Most American’s associate Reggae with the use of Marijuana because some of the lyrics feature cannabis in the lyrics.  In reality, a belief system called Rastafarian uses marijuana as part of a sacrament because they believe that it will bring them closer to God.  But not all Reggae lyrics have references to marijuana and not all Reggae musicians follow the belief system of Rastafarian.

Some of the more popular Reggae artist in the United States includes Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, and Peter Tosh.  I listened to these artists all week and have decided that even though the music is very captivating and sends a deep and meaningful message, I did not enjoy it.  It was just not my taste.  I can sit and listen to it if one of my friends play the genre, but I wouldn’t put it onto my iPod and listen to the music.
