ABOUT THE AUTHOR

This is my week of Rap music.  No other style of music has crossed so many boundaries in the American culture of that of the style Rap.  It started with describing the tales of the life in the inner-city culture and bashing other rappers.  This is according to allsands.com.  But now, it has become a way of expressing the want of social change.  This can be heard in many of the modern day Rap music.  These artists include, but not limited to, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and T.I.

My opinion of Rap had definitely been swayed.  I originally thought that all Rap was about doing drugs, having and sex, and assaulting other people.  But I had that mentality because those were the types of songs the radio plays.

An example of this is Lil’ Wayne’s song, Lollypop.  When that song was released, it was all that was played on the radio.  And as a young lady, I found it offensive.  So, I chalked it up as, “well, all Rap is like this”, and refused to listen to any other artist.

I can say that I’ve changed my mind.  I now understand that certain Rap songs have that feel, but not all.  And the Rap that I have listened to this week has really opened up my eyes as to see that there are many different types of Rap.  And that I enjoy listening to the Rap that pleads for social change.  So was this a success?  I would have to say it was.

Next week, I’m going to listening to what Rap influenced, Metal.
