ETSU will be hosting a second annual e-Waste recycling event on May 14-16. After last year’s success, ETSU decided to once again host the communitywide event, which provides free dropoff for unwanted or obsolete electronics such as computers and printers.
May 14 and 15 are designated for local companies and organizations that have signed up to drop off their e-waste, and May 16 is open for students, homeowners and the general public to drop off items.
According to the coordinator of the event, Kathleen Moore of the ETSU grounds and maintenance staff, e-waste is mostly being sent to third world countries and that is causing huge environmental issues.
The collectors at ETSU recycling event send the e-waste to a plant in middle Tennessee, and they assure that it is properly and securely recycled and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable way, Moore said.
About 230,000 pounds of materials were collected at latest year’s e-Waste event.
